Simba vs OTTY: Mattress Review

Two of the best hybrid mattresses on the market in the UK are from Simba Sleep and OTTY. In this article, we are going to compare these two outstanding mattresses so you can decide which one would be best for you.

Hybrid mattresses are comfortable and provide you with many wellbeing benefits such as a good night’s sleep. These mattresses utilise the support from its springs as well as the bounce for supreme comfort, especially from the built-in foam.

While both mattresses are excellent, we want to show you which one is best for you. Keep scrolling to find out more!

The reason we are comparing the Simba Hybrid mattress and the OTTY Hybrid mattress is that they are currently two of the most popular models on the UK market.

Don’t forget there are a range of other products from these companies if you wish to look. Just click the links here: Simba and OTTY.

If you’re ready and comfy, let’s take a look at both mattresses below.

Simba vs OTTY: Comparisons

As both mattresses are hybrid, they are constructed from similar materials and utilize traditional springs and ultra-comfortable advanced foam to stop those bad backs when you wake up after a long night.

Materials

Layers

As we mentioned, Simba Hybrid mattresses and OTTY Hybrid mattresses contain similar materials.

Let’s start by looking at the materials and amount of layers used in a Simba mattress.

Simba

As you dive inside the Simba Hybrid mattress, you will discover 4 distinct layers which all have unique characteristics. These are:

  1. Simbatex® layer – Made from open-cell poly foam, this layer provides added breathability and ensures the sleeping surface remains cool during sleep.
  2. Conical pocket springs – These provide extra bounce to the mattress for well-needed support. You will find 2,500 mini springs in the largest of the mattresses (King size) and these adjust individually as you sleep.
  3. Memory foam layer – This transitional layer supplies conforming effects so you gain added support for different parts of your body.
  4. Polyfoam base foam – Here is a layer that adds more support with no zoning areas to provide more sinkage for certain areas of the body such as the shoulders and hip region.

OTTY

As with the Simba mattress, the OTTY model has 4 layers but also includes a side layer for extra support.

  1. Blue gel memory foam – This layer is extremely soft and perfect for relieving pressure. OTTY have engineered a cool blue gel memory foam so no heat is stored inside which is a common issue with memory foam.
  2. Polyfoam – This ensures a very smooth progression from the top layer to the more robust springs below.
  3. Encapsulated pocket springs – These springs are full-sized at 14cm to add extra support and bounce to the mattress. For King-size mattresses, you will find 2,000 of these springs which sets the OTTY apart from most competitors. These help provide maximum support while minimising motion transfer which is ideal for those who share a bed or if you toss and turn regularly.
  4. Side polyfoam – The springs are boxed in by this polyfoam to provide extra support to the mattress.
  5. Polyfoam base – This is simply a support for the springs to lay on.

Both mattresses are constructed from top-quality materials and are assembled with unique technology. However, the combination of excellent features on the Simba gives it a small edge.

Covers

Simba

The Simba cover has been re-engineered and is now 700g of hand-knitted, strong, and stretchable material.

It is made from 100% polyester for added strength and breathability. It feels supremely soft and can be machine washed at 40 degrees resulting in easy maintenance.

Another highlight of this mattress is that it’s hypoallergenic which is ideal for those who suffer from allergies. It has a diamond pattern which looks great as well as allowing the cover to breathe more easily.

However, there are no handles provided for easy manoeuvring.

OTTY

The OTTY cover is similar to the Simba as it is made from 97% polyester with 3% spandex. This is advantageous as polyester is a highly breathable material that is perfect for hotter summer months.

The spandex helps improve the overall fit so the cover will hug the mattress better. The cover can be unzipped and machine washed separately at 40 degrees.

The OTTY cover also includes very small pores in the top to dissipate heat more evenly and help to ensure a perfect sleeping temperature.

Both companies have taken similar approaches to their covers. Both use polyester but there are some better materials available such as Tencel or bamboo. However, both covers are very similar in terms of breathability and airflow. Therefore, you shouldn’t wake up because of an overheated bedroom climate.

When it comes to practicality, the Simba mattress cover includes handles for easy turning which can increase its longevity. Having said that, both mattresses are equally well designed, easy to clean, and are good fits.

Firmness and Comfort

Nearly all boxed mattresses are made for the average sleeper. Therefore, they typically have a medium-firm feel and this is the category where the Simba and OTTY fall into.

Simba

The Simba Hybrid mattress scores 6.5/10 on the firmness scale. This is due to its combination of multiple foam layers and mini pocket springs.

It is a typical boxed mattress with a balanced medium-firm comfort and should appeal to most sleepers around the UK.

When you turn onto the stomach position, the mattress tends to be a little too soft for some but it is a perfect mattress for those who sleep on their sides or back.

It’s a great all-rounder mattress and should be suitable for partners to share. The motion transfer is minimal due to the tiny springs which is unusual for a hybrid mattress. Its edge support is very good and, overall, the mattress provides competent support and comfort.

If the Simba Hybrid mattress does not meet all of your expectations, you can return it within the 100-night trial period.

OTTY

The OTTY Hybrid mattress is slightly firmer. With its larger supportive springs, the OTTY is currently rated at around 7/10 on the firmness scale.

This firmness is very popular with many sleepers as it offers a great combination of comfort and support. As with the Simba mattress, OTTY has outstanding edge support and is a perfect choice if you share your bed with a partner.

The OTTY mattress contains 64% spring to 36% foam, resulting in optimal support and comfort. If you suffer from health issues or various ailments such as arthritis, the OTTY mattress could be the best option.

Just like Goldilocks, this mattress looks just right. It provides a great deal of support for your neck, shoulders, and hips so you can get a relaxing night’s sleep every time. If the mattress is deemed too soft or firm for your liking, you can return it within its 100-night trial.

Both of these mattresses have a very similar feel. However, the OTTY is somewhat firmer. Simba proves more comfort but the OTTY offers better edge support. The best choice for you depends on whether you’re looking for better edge support or comfort in a mattress.
